On Prayer

“God instituted prayer in order to lend His creatures the dignity of causality.” - Blaise Pascal

Elijah prayed for rain, David for the life of his son, and Christ for us. We don’t fully understand prayer, but I think it’s a gift of inestimable value. It doesn’t cost anything. You can do it yourself. And even if you do it badly, you’re still doing it better than those who wish to be heard “for their many words”!

Life is complicated and I’m convinced there’s no “quick fix,” but I’m also convinced that prayer is worthwhile, and I think God delights to hear from anyone who calls on His name. So anyway, here’s to praying more often than we worry, which for any of us is probably a noble aspiration!
